About Chatham House Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship is a joint initiative between Chatham House. The Academy fellowship is aimed at candidates at the mid-stage of their career and who come from academia, NGOs, business, government departments, civil society or the media.

They should possess knowledge of, and interest in, the policy challenges related to global governance.

Values/Benefits

The academy fellowship will provide fellows with a monthly stipend of £2,365. Modest provision is made for the costs of relocation, fieldwork, and possible publication costs.

Also, fellows will have full access to the Academy’s Leadership Programme, Alumni Programme, complimentary Chatham House membership and Academy Associate status (awarded upon the successful completion of the fellowship).

Access to the staff canteen providing complimentary tea, coffee and lunch and many more benefits designed to suit your own personal lifestyle.

There is also modest provision which is made for the costs of relocation, fieldwork, and possible publication costs.

Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship Requirements

The application process for the 2021 Academy Fellowships requires

  • Applicants need to be a citizen/national of any of following Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Uganda, Mozambique, Zambia Africa countries.
  • applicants to hold a completed BA degree or equivalent, Masters degree with an international focus is preferred.
  • Be at mid-level of your career either in academia, NGOs, business, governments departments, civil socity or media.
  • Possess knowledge of, and an interest in, the policy challenges related to global governance.
  • Have a passport and be able to provide copy of the photo page of passport (to confirm you meet the nationality requirements)
  • Applications will also be accepted from applicants holding dual nationality which includes one of the above African countries.
  • You propose a research project. Your proposal should consider how your country or region has been affected – positively or negatively – by aspects of global governance.

Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship Documentation Required

To apply, Complete application for the academy fellowship must be submitted with the following documents electronic copies.

  • CV/resumé
  • Names of two referees
  • Scanned copy of the photo page of your passport (to confirm you meet the nationality requirements)
  • Completing a personal research project of the fellow’s own design undertaken with the guidance of a Chatham House expert, (approximately 50%).

Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship Structure

The Academy fellowship requires a fellow’s time will be split between three key areas:

Completing a personal research project of the fellow’s own design undertaken with the guidance of a Chatham House expert, (approximately 50%).

Contributing to the ongoing research activities of their host research team and other Chatham House teams as appropriate (approximately 20%).

Participation in the Academy’s Leadership Programme (approximately 30%). The Leadership Programme is a key part of the Academy fellowships. It provides fellows with the opportunity to develop their knowledge, skills, network and self-awareness, which they can then draw upon in their future careers as effective leaders in their field.

All academy fellows will spend up to 10 months at Chatham House, London starting from January 2021.
