About Fintech for Inclusion

Fintech for Inclusion is a three-stage open innovation process designed by Shaping Horizons to ignite projects and promote international collaboration.

Shaping Horizons is a registered open innovation methodology developed to accelerate social innovation, foster diplomacy and help overcome the financial challenges which confirms with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals involving some methodology like digital pre-incubation, in-person ideation, and digital accelerator for in-person or digitally.

Benefits of Fintech for Inclusion

Teams that successfully complete the ideation stage (either in person or digitally), will be eligible for non-equity financing while they implement and advance their projects. Up to £25,000 will be distributed among teams. Moreover, an equivalent of £10,000 will be further distributed among the best team/s to cover training activities, with expenses covered, at the University of Cambridge.

Why Apply for Shaping Horizons Fintech for Inclusion 2020

Financial inclusion can advance 13 out of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals according to the United Nations. Hence, advancing financial inclusion is a key priority in both regions.

Fintech for Inclusion Categories

The Fintech for Inclusion programme at Shaping Horizon will focus on the following key strategic areas:

Loans and Microcredits: solutions that aim to increase the financial resources of those who need it to maintain their activities or livelihoods. Some recent examples include: micro-credits, crowdlending, and many more.

Savings and Investments: solutions that aim to increase the financial resources of people and/or organizations. Some recent examples include: fixed-term savings, crowdfunding, stocks, and many more.

Payment methods: solutions for people and/or organizations that allow the exchange of goods. Some examples include: credit cards, pins, QR codes, facial recognition, fingerprints, and many more.

Financial Education: teaching or assisting, through consulting for personal or enterprise purposes, are what we imagine when we talk about financial education.

What Are The Stages of Fintech For Inclusion Programme

The Shaping Horizon Fintech for Inclusion Programme has 3 stages of Fintech for Inclusion.

Digital Pre-Incubation Stage: Applicants will be selected Shaping Horizon for the Fintech for Inclusion Latam-UK Programme. Team will be briefed to understand the goal through weekly tailored digital innovation tool in online sessions.

In-Person Ideation: From the pre-incubation stage, around 6-8 teams will be invited to participate in the Fintech for inclusion in-person ideation summit.

Digital Accelerator: Final stage, here teams that successfully complete the ideation stage at Shaping Horizon Fintech for inclusion programme (either in person or digitally) will be eligible for the non-equity financing of the sum of £25,000.

Fintech for Inclusion LatAm-UK Programme Requirements

To be able to apply for the Shaping Horizon Fintech for Inclusion programme.

  • An experience in financial technolog, simply fintech is needed.
  • Be of 20 -32 years of old at time of application for Shaping Horizon Fintech for Inclusion programme
  • Have more than one year of experience in financial inclusion working in either LatAm or the UK in any of the financial technology sector: Financial education, Lending, Payments and Savings.
  • Need to have lived in at least one of the following LatAm, the Caribbean or the UK regions within the last 3 years.
  • Be able to analyse problems form a critical inegrative point of view, and be able to suggest concrete solutions or/and implete them.
  • Possess advanced English language skill with good track record as team player.
  • Be flexible and open to diverse roles and sectors from employing technical skills in the workplace to being involved in the Latin America or the UK social economic development, academia and private/public sectors.
