In a launch, UNV and World Health Organisation (WHO) initiate to recruit African Women who are middle career professionals in Africa to promote health and boost gender equity across 47 countries in the region.
Scholarships can be given for a number of reasons and are designed to support you through your studies by helping with selected degree program living cost.

Why United Nations Volunteer?

UNV will recruit nationals from Africa continent and international UN Volunteers from around the world, with a special focus on the recruitment of female professionals, who have at least two years of professional experience related to public health, epidemiology, health research, health emergency management, data management, statistics or other health related fields, as well as information management, innovation, communications or external relations.

In a region with some of the highest rates of disease in the world, the Africa Women Health Champions initiative will provide women with the opportunity to serve to improve the health and well-being of people in Africa.

Value/Worth

Applicants will be provided with job pay monthly living allowance covering house, basic needs and utilities; settling-in-grant; life, health and permanent disability insurance; return airfares. while on an assignment for the duration period. Eligibility and Requirements

The following eligibility and requirement will be followed.

  • Be a female professional from the African region
  • Be at least 22 years old for national UN Volunteer assignments, and at least 25 years old for international UN Volunteer assignments.
  • Have at least two years of professional experience related to any of the following:
  1. public health
  2. epidemiology
  3. health research
  4. health emergency management
  5. data management
  6. statistics or other health related fields
  7. information management
  8. innovation
  9. communications or external relations.

Languages

English and French for Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Guinea Conakry, Madagascar, Mali, Rwanda and Togo.
English and Portuguese for Mozambique and Sao Tome and Principe.
French and Arabic for Algeria.
English for Eritrea, Eswatini, Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.

Assignment information

Duration: 12 months (or until 31 Dec 2020, with possibility of extension)
Starting date: Any time during 2020, with ideally a large number of UN Volunteers taking up their assignment in July 2020
Conditions of service: monthly living allowance to cover housing, basic needs and utilities; settling-in-grant; life, health and permanent disability insurance; return airfares.

More details will be included in the specific descriptions of assignments and may vary depending on the volunteer category (national or international UN Volunteer; Specialist or Youth assignment).
