About UBA National Essay Competition
Targeted at senior secondary schools students in Nigeria, the National Essay Competition is annually organized for young secondary school students.
As part of UBA Foundation’s Education Initiative which aims to promote academics – the reading culture, encourage healthy and intellectual competition among the secondary school students in the country Nigeria and across Africa.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria For Essay Competition
The following are the eligibility and requirements for the UBA National Essay Competition 2022
- Candidate must submit a handwritten essay (750 Words Maximum) on the given topic.
- Candidate must be a senior secondary school student at the time of application.
- Submit a passport photograph
- Must submit a valid scanned copy of identification (birth certificate, National ID or passport).
- Be a Nigeria Citizen or resident and studying in Nigeria.
Please Note: Application is online and must be completed before the deadline/closing date. An incomplete application will not be accepted.
National Essay Competition Topic
ASUU Strikes have often cost Nigerian students time. Advise the Nigerian government on how they can reach an agreement with ASUU to improve tertiary education in the country.
Selection Procedure
- All entries received for the competition will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges made up of professors from reputable Nigerian Universities, who will then shortlist 12 essays for further assessment.
- Following this, the second round of the competition will involve the 12 finalists who will write a second supervised essay.
- The three best essays will be selected as the winners from the 12 finalists who emerged from the first round of the competition.
How To Apply For UBA National Essay Competition
Application Procedure – To successfully submit application, interested candidates
- Must complete, submit and provide their valid contact information (Name, Age, Residential Address, Email Address).
- Submit School Details – Such as (Name of School, Address of School, Telephone Number).
- Applicant must upload a scanned copy of their original birth certificate or international passport data page.
- Hand-written essay copy must be uploaded to the UBA online registration portal.
