The PTDF Scholarship Overseas is offered annually for Msc and PhD study Program.
Each year, PTDF invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for overseas scholarships to undertake MSc and PhD program in institutions under its partnership. Candidates interested in the PTDF overseas scholarship do submit an application for the scholarship award as young Nigerian scholars are awarded the scholarship for Masters and PhD study program.
The essence of the PTDF Scholarship is to provide Nigerian graduate students with the intellectual foundation and skill set that will enable them to participate actively in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

About PTDF
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is a Federal Government agency in the country Nigeria with the mandate of developing indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry also fund and offer PTDF scholarship scheme. The Overseas Scholarship Scheme (OSS) for Master and PhD study is part of PTDF Human Capital Development, with the objectives training young Nigerians.

Note: The Overseas Scholarships is available for Msc(Master) and PhD study and is open to students who want to study at the overseas country.

- Academic merit as evidenced by the quality of degrees,
- Full academic transcripts, other professional qualifications acquired and relevant publications to be referenced by applicant (PhD applicants only).

- Submit statement of purpose (Applicants are required to make a case for their scholarship) not more than (500 words) statement of purpose; should contain the reason(s) you want to undertake the study, the relevance of the proposed study to the industry and its expected impact on national development.
PTDF Overseas Scholarship Requirements
The requirements for PTDF Overseas scholarship application are listed below;
MSc Study – Overseas Scholarship Requirements
- Candidate must not be above 30 years at the time of scholarship application.
- Candidate must be computer literate.
- Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
- Possession of 5 O/level credits including English Language subject in SSCE result (WAEC, NECO, GCE).
- Possess a minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in their A-level(first degree) or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience(most preferable an oil and gas industry or relating organisation).
PhD Study – Overseas Scholarship Requirements
- Candidates must be computer literate.
- Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
- Possession of 5 O/level credits including English Language subject in SSCE result (WAEC, NECO, GCE).
- Possess a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a good second-degree certificate.
- Submit a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than 5 pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology, and mode of data collection.
- Applicants must also include their master’s degree project.
- Employed in the academics in reputable Nigerian higher Institution, teaching oil and gas related disciplines.

Application to PTDF for the overseas scholarship will need the following documentation. All documents must be available on request and uploaded for the scholarship application
- Recent passport photographs.
- An NYSC discharge certificate.
- A-Level certificate (First degree certificate or statement of result).
- SSCE certificate (WAEC, NECO, GCE result).
