The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is a Federal Government agency in the country Nigeria with the PTDF scholarship scheme. PTDF scholarship scheme is part of PTDF Human Capital Development, with the objectives training young Nigerians.
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) scholarship scheme each year awards applicants who applied for the scholarship award.

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund PTDF Scholarship Scheme is a funding programme with the objectives of meeting the Human Capacity requirements of oil and gas industrial sector, providing skilled man power.
The scheme basically provide a scholarship award for MSc and PhD study, and no provision of award for undergraduate study programme overseas. Currently there are two types of scholarship offered by Petroleum Technology Development Fund scholarship scheme, they are overseas scholarship and local scholarship scheme.
PTDF OVERSEAS SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME (OSS)
PTDF Overseas scholarship is one among the scholarship scheme that funds Nigerian young, vibrant students to study overseas. Using the scheme with application for the overseas scholarship, candidates can apply to a partner university in the four countries PTDF overseas scholarship support. Candidates can also study a specific programme, courses that are English language taught. programmes that are oil and gas relating;

The PTDF overseas scholarship awards candidates by offering the opportunity to learn and study in technology and innovating countries with large facilities and knowledge from top ranked universities in the most chosen destination for study of professional courses. The scholarship scheme has strategically partner with these countries and some of their top universities- France, Germany, USA, and UK universities.
Note: Candidates applying for the overseas scholarship need to possess the Standardised English Test while applying to universities in any of the four countries
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Candidates applying to UK universities
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – Candidates applying to the US universities
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) – Candidates applying to US universities

PTDF LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME (LSS)
PTDF scholarship scheme provides local scholarships to students to undertake BSc, MSc and PhD study. The local scholarship scheme was designed to derive maximum benefit from the university upgrade and endowment programs of the fund.

PTDF SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
PTDF scholarship competition is high, candidates who want to apply for the scholarship need meet the scholarship application requirements. Candidate selection by the committee is based on an outstanding performance on the board.
1. PTDF Local Scholarship Requirements
Undergraduate Study – Requirements for Application
- Applicants must be studying in Federal Universities and be full time students.
- Applicants must be in their second year of study.
- Applicants course of study should be related to oil and gas industry.
- Candidates need to possess 5 credits in O-Level SSCE results (WAEC, GCE, NECO) including English Language and Mathematics subject.
- Candidates need possess a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 on scale of 5 or 3.0 on a scale of 4 which is equivalent to 2.1 in their first year.
MSc Study – Requirements for Application
- Applicants must possess a letter of admission offer for a full time study into any of the Federal Universities.
- Applicants must possess a minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in an oil and gas related field or a 2.2 with a minimum working experience of 2 years in the oil and gas industry.
- Candidates must possess at least 5 credits in OLevel SSCE results (WAEC/GCE/NECO).
- Posses National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate or Letter of exemption.
- Letter of admission into the University.
- Academic transcript.
- Evidence of state of origin and local government.
- Personal statement of a minimum of 1000(one thousand) words stating reasons for undertaking the course of study.
PhD Study- Requirements for application
- Applicants must possess full time admission letter into any of the Federal Universities.
- A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in an Oil and Gas related field or a 2.2 with a minimum working experience of 2 years in the oil and gas industry.
- Possess at least 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO results.
- National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate or Letter of exemption.
- A minimum of 2.2 in their first degree and a minimum of merit as a second-degree certificate in an oil and gas related discipline.
- Valid admission letter of not more than one year.
- Academic transcripts.
- Evidence of state of origin and local government.
- Research area must be relevant to the oil and gas industry.
- PhD research proposal of not more than 6 pages to include topic, introduction, literature review, research question(s), novelty, methodology, mode of data collection(s), expected outcome(s), relevance to the industry and appropriate references.
2. PTDF Overseas Scholarship Requirements
MSc Study – Scholarship Application Requirements
- Candidate must not be above 30 years at the time of application.
- Candidate must be computer literate.
- Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
- Possession of 5 O/level credits including English Language subject in SSCE result (WAEC, NECO, GCE).
- Possess a minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in their A-level(first degree) or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience(most preferable an oil and gas industry or relating organisation).
PhD Study – Scholarship Application Requirements
- Candidates must be computer literate.
- Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC).
- Possession of 5 O/level credits including English Language subject in SSCE result (WAEC, NECO, GCE).
- Possess a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a good second-degree certificate.
- Submit a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than 5 pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology, and mode of data collection.
- Applicants must also include their master’s degree project.
- Employed in the academics in reputable Nigerian higher Institution, teaching oil and gas related disciplines.
PTDF SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
Criteria for the scholarship application will aid in your success, carefully provide the best you have and put up a good write up where necessary. The scholarship criteria for selection of applicants are;
- Academic merit as evidenced by the quality of degrees,
- Full academic transcripts, other professional qualifications acquired and relevant publications to be referenced by applicant (PhD applicants only).
- Membership of professional bodies, the viability of the study/research plan.
- Submit statement of purpose (Applicants are required to make a case for their scholarship) not more than (500 words) statement of purpose; should contain the reason(s) you want to undertake the study, the relevance of the proposed study to the industry and its expected impact on national development.

Applicants applying for the scholarship will need to make the following documentation available on request and upload for the scholarship application
- Recent passport photographs.
- An NYSC discharge certificate.
- A-Level certificate (First degree certificate or statement of result).
