The score considered to be a good SAT score depend on the college a student is applying to. A great SAT score contributes to your chances of gaining admission to schools – college or university. The SAT has two sections, Math, and Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW). To get into one of the top 100 most selective schools, you will generally need to have a composite SAT score of at least 1200, preferably 1400 or more. Composite SAT scores of more than 1400 are in the top six percent of test takers.
The highest possible SAT score any student can earn is 1600 points and the better your chance to get into School. So how do students earn highest SAT score for admission into college? To get this perfect SAT score, you have to get a perfect 800 on both Math, and Reading/Writing SAT sections. But even a perfect SAT score is no guarantee of admission at the most selective institutions. A perfect SAT score is incredibly rare.
The better your score, the higher your chances are of getting into a top school. But most admission decisions depend on more than just grades and test scores for students to get into colleges or universities. Students with high test scores do receive merit scholarships at some schools. Merit scholarships award are offered to student at some colleges and universities based on high school GPA, admissions test scores, leadership skills and talents.
What is a Good SAT Score
A good SAT score is from 1200 to 1500 and a perfect score for SAT is 1600.
The SAT scores are totaled to give you a composite score, but a perfect score 1600 is hard to come by. According to the College Board’s most recent report, in 2018 approximately 2.1 million students took the SAT. Of these, just 7% of t0tal student population scored between 1400 and 1600. Certainly, very few people scored above 1400, let alone a perfect 1600!
Note: the SAT Essay is optional, so even if you take it, this score will not be factored into your final composite score.

For a percentile rank of 97 in Math section you get 750, while a percentile rank of 99 in writing and reading you get 750 summing up to give a score of 1500. However, with a percentile rank >99 for both sections you will get perfect score 1600.
From the above table with a raw score of 56 in Maths you will get 790, but for all 58 questions right you get perfect raw score of 800.
How to Earn the Highest SAT Score
Definitely you will want to aim for perfect score but if less a good score. So how do you get it achieved for a chance to get to school?
#1. Start SAT Practice Tests
You can get good understanding and the types of questions for each section. Taking SAT practice tests will help you get familiar with the format of the test so you are better prepared and improve on the topics maybe you struggle with a certain topic. Best practice method when taking SAT practice tests is to create a model environment to the environment on the actual test day.
Get your self familiar with the question types for maths and writing. By doing this you build your confidence attempting and answering not just easy questions but difficult and challenging ones. All that is need keep them ready prior to the day, and setting a timer when practicing.
#2. Time Your Practice Test.
Timing is very important for the SAT. Answering timed practice tests or timing a SAT practice test will give you a good idea of how well you performed and how much more you need to prepare so you can score the highest SAT score possible.
#3. Get One-On-One SAT Help to Get Highest SAT Score
Some students perform better with one-on-one help. If you know you are the kind of student and think this may help you, get a SAT tutor within your neighborhood. This will attract some fee and if you think it’s an expensive option then get classmates who are also about taking SAT. Having few classmate with good academic performance or better than you do help to boost your performances. Also with a few organized group, you might be able to bring down the cost of tuition by a tutor. Alternatively you could even join a SAT review class at school for free.
#4. Continous Practice
Having a relentless practice is a key to get familiar with questions and also find out what your mistakes are. A continous practice can be focus on the section you probably struggling with to have a great score
#5. Target Maximum Score in Maths
The maths section has raw score from 0 -58 matching maths scale score of 2oo – 800 if you focus on getting all 58 questions answered correctly then you will a perfect score of 800.
Figure out which types of questions you do miss answers. Maybe certain topic, such as slopes or fractions could be the ones you struggling with.
#6. Shoot For Perfection When Practicing
The reading and writing section is one area you should tackle. It contains long passages, so you need to develop a strategy to approach and read passages. It could be taken note of the question and finding the answer in the passage or skimming the passages first then proceed to answer the questions later.
