You can now apply to attend the 2020 Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF) in Kigali, Rwanda. If you are a youth in Commonwealth country between age of 18 – 29 and have experience in youth advocacy or development.

Application Deadline

The deadline to register your interest in attending the 2020 Commonwealth youth forum is March 20, 2020.

Why Commonwealth Youth Forum

The Youth Forum will be bringing together a number of 1,000 youth leaders from the 53 member countries of Commonwealth to brainstorm policy solutions to global challenges such as unemployment, gender inequality, crime and lack of quality education.

The Commonwealth Youth Forum will be a key in giving young youths a platform to engage with leaders.

The forum will focus on capturing the aspirations of young people and ensuring they play a key role in shaping the future of an inclusive Commonwealth.

About the Commonwealth Youth Forum

The Commonwealth Youth Forum, hosted by the Government of Rwanda, and co-organised with the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Commonwealth Youth Council, is one of the four fora preceding the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in June 2020 to help set the agenda for the meeting between Heads of Government.

The event brings together 500 exceptional youth leaders from across the Commonwealth to exchange ideas and share experiences, build skills and networks, identify the most vital challenges and opportunities facing young people today, and make recommendations to decision makers at the highest level.

Interested in attending the 2020 Youth Forum

CYF takes place from 20 to 23 June 2020. The forum event bring 500 young youth leaders from across Commonwealth member countries to attend and build consensus on key challenges and opportunities facing young people. These include:

  • Employment
  • Climate change
  • Gender equality
  • Innovation
  • Peacebuilding

On 26 June, leaders will consider the proposed solutions at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

Forum Theme

The theme for the 2020 Commonwealth Youth Forum is ‘Taking Charge of Our Future’.

The Government of Rwanda, the Commonwealth and the Commonwealth Youth Council are convening the youth forum.

Attendance Requirements

To attend the forum you must:

Be a Commonwealth citizen between the age of 18 and 29

Have experience in youth advocacy or development; and

Represent a youth-led body, youth organisation or a special interest group (indigenous young people, young disabled people, rural youth, etc.)

Demonstrate an interest in global and Commonwealth issues and working with other young people towards the success of local, regional youth organisations, as well as the Commonwealth Youth Council and its continuation.

Be committed to working in their respective countries with youth leaders, young people, youth organisations and special interest group as part of the preparatory work prior to attending and after the forum. This includes disseminating learnings and engaging with the Commonwealth Youth Council and other stakeholders to assist implement outcomes from the forum.

Be dedicated to strengthening dialogue between young people of the Commonwealth.

You will need to register your interest to participate by completing the online form

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: The closing date to register your interest in attending the forum is 20 March 2020.
